The Rupture of Father-Son Bonds
Pages & Examples
Page 86-87
“My father’s presence was the only thing that stopped me. He was running next to me, out of breath, out of strength, desperate. I had no right to let myself die. What would he do without me? I was his sole support.”
They were running to a different camp. If someone stopped them would get shot or trampled.

“What if he had wanted to get rid of his father? He had felt his father growing weaker and, believing that the end was near, had thought by his separation to free himself of a burden that could diminish his own chance for survival.”
They just reached their resting destination and a man was looking for his son.

“The only thing that keeps me alive is to know that Reizel and the little ones are still alive. Were it not for them, I would give up.”
He was giving Elie another ration of bread.

“I did not weep, and it pained me that I could not weep. But I was out of tears. And deep inside me, if I could have searched the recesses of my feeble conscience, I might have found something like: Free at last!...”
Elie looked over and saw that his father wasn’t in his bunk. Another sick person was.

“Meir, my little Meir! Don’t you recognize me…You’re killing your father….I have bread…..for you too…..for you too…
He collapsed. But his fist was still clutching a small crust. He wanted to raise it to his mouth. But the other threw himself on him. His son searched him, took the crust of bread, and began to devour it.”
His son killed him over a piece of bread.

Raymond is a former United States Army soldier, private security intelligence employee, and contractor with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Samurai
Samurai is the term for the military nobility of pre-industrial Japan.
History
Samurai warriors described themselves as followers of "The Way of the Warrior" or Bushido.
Education
In general, samurai, aristocrats, and priests had a very high literacy rate in Kanji.
Recent studies have shown that literacy in Kanji among other groups in society was somewhat higher than previously understood.
Names
A samurai was usually named by combining one kanji from his father or grandfather and one new kanji.
Samurai normally used only a small part of their total name.
Marriage
The marriage of samurai was done by having a marriage arranged by someone with the same or higher rank than those being married.
Women
It is the women’s job to keep the household in order.
The women were left to manage the household while their husbands were off in battle.
Armor
As far back as the seventh century Japanese warriors wore a form of lamellar armour, this armour eventually evolved into the armour worn by the samurai.

Having a Job as a Barista
A barista is a person, usually a coffeehouse employee, who prepares and serves espresso-based coffee drinks. A barista probably works in a small shack near the side of the highway, either on peoples’ way out of a place or coming into a place. Or a barista could work in a big coffee shop, somewhere in town normally. Baristas operate four different types of commercial espresso machines: manual, semi automatic, automatic, or super automatic. The role of a barista is to have enough knowledge of the entire process of coffee to effectively prepare a desired cup of coffee.
I was inspired to be a barista by Taylor Weisz. Anytime I would go to the Java I would see how much fun she was having, serving drinks and food to people. She was always happy and having fun with what she was doing. She gave me a lot of criticism about how to make things correctly. Ever since I saw her having fun as a barista, I wanted that job.
